We have known about this car since 2002. It formed part of a collection of unrestored and rough condition cars owned by a Vietnamese collector. It took us 3 years to buy it, and we actually had to buy as a batch of 3 cars. 2 Mercedes and a Citroen.
The restoration was a major project which took us a further 3 years. It was a total and ground up nut and bolt restoration. A fortune was spent on genuine Mercedes parts to get this car into the wonderful condition it is now in. It is believed to have been bought to Vietnam during the late 1960’s by a US serviceman. When we bought this car, it still had its pre 1975 paperwork! So it had not been used for many, many years.
The Mercedes w113 range was introduced in 1963. It replaced both the ageing 190sl series and the expensive 300sl series. It was a successful car for Mercedes and stayed in production until 1971. It was nicknamed Pagoda in most countries, due to the concave centre of its hard top roof.
This particular example is finished in Mercedes silver with a red leather interior. It’s a 4 speed manual gearbox. It has both hard and soft tops. It seats 1 passenger+ driver.
